Captain Christopher A. Bish was one of two hundred sixty four law enforcement officials who graduated from the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia on Friday, September 21, 2012.
The 250th Session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 49 states, the District of Columbia, 24 international countries, three military organizations and four federal civilian organizations.
The National Academy is a ten week program of advanced investigative, leadership and fitness training for selected law enforcement officials having proven records as professionals within their jurisdictions. On average, the attendees have 19 years of law enforcement experience and typically return to their agencies to serve in executive leadership positions.
The training is provided by FBI Academy staff, special agents and other individuals who hold advanced degrees, many of whom are recognized internationally in their fields of expertise. The rigorous curriculum merits academic credit from the University of Virginia for those pursuing either undergraduate or graduate degrees.
Since 1935, the FBI National Academy has graduated 46,082 law enforcement officers from around the world with roughly 28,569 still active in law enforcement.
Captain Bish began his career with the Chicago Police Department in 1971 as a Cadet assigned to the Central Warrant Unit during which he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. Upon completion of basic and military police training, he returned to the 933rd Military Police Company in Chicago, Illinois to fulfill his military obligation. He then became a member of the Barrington Hills Illinois Police Department where he was scheduled to attend the 118th Session of the FBI National Academy as a Detective Sergeant but was unable to accept the invitation at that time.
Captain Bish joined the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in 1984 and worked in a number of assignments to include narcotics enforcement, general investigations, intelligence, special weapons and tactics, technical surveillance, communications and was a fulltime bomb technician for ten years. Captain Bish retired as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Athens Field Office at the end of 2010 after receiving a Governor's Award for Contribution to the Profession from former Governor Sonny Perdue.
Captain Bish accepted his current position with the Morgan County Sheriff's Office in January of 2011 and commands the Uniform Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions and is the first member to attend the FBI National Academy.
